That’s what I’m wearing above as the “tall” boots. They were the perfect height for those 5’2! You can find a used pair on eBay or Poshmark, otherwise they are sold out. They are half wool / half rubber, and a few inches shorter than the “Original Tall’ but I would still consider Tall. I ended up giving the Hunter Original Tall boots to my mom and buying a new limited edition pair, Arlen Tall Boots. Short Girl Problems – this might not happen if you are taller than 5’3. The uncomfortable buckles would press also into my calf. The one con – whenever I sat down in class the top back of the boot would press into the back of my knee / calf area. Moral of the above story: Tall boots are better for those looking for a winter boot because you can add in those fleece inserts. “Tall” – Arlen Black/Navy Wool Plaid – not available anymore (limited edition from 5 years ago).Hunters worked better than Uggs for walking across campus because they are waterproof, but the fleece in those Uggs are SO much fluffier and softer. I needed a shoe to trek 30 minutes across campus at Michigan State and my feet not freeze to death. The main reason I went with tall was because of the cable knit fleece inserts. In college, the first pair I bought were the Tall Hunter Boot Matte Black. Matte Black? Gloss Black? Wool Black? Yup…but let’s answer the short or tall question first. I sat in the store and tried on every color before I finally settled on black….in all 3 styles I own. Q-STNRY = Quasi-Stationary or Near Stationary This information can tell pilots or drivers where to expect fog, and can help save lives.(click to enlarge image) Standard Text Abbreviations These satellites will be able to take very high-resolution photos of clouds and fogs. NOAA is developing a new generation of geostationary and polar satellites. Because the Earth rotates while the satellite makes its orbit, it is able to see nearly every part of Earth’s surface. Earth rotates under these satellites as they make the trip from pole to pole. The orbits of these satellites cross over each of the poles. Orbiting Earth in such a way allows the satellite to hover over one location, providing a bird's eye view. These satellites orbit Earth in the same exact time that it takes for Earth to make a full rotation. The first is called a geostationary satellite. Two types of satellites from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) monitor fog from high in the sky. Pilots and drivers can get some help from space, though. Foggy conditions create dangerous flying conditions and can delay or cancel flights. Fog also creates trouble for air travelers. ![]() Thousands of driving accidents happen each year because of fog. Photo used with permission of Orlando Sentinel, Copyright 2008.įog can be a big problem for humans, especially when we have to drive or fly through it. Superfogs create very hazardous driving conditions.įog and smoke from a brush fire combined to make a super fog, resulting in this massive car accident in Florida in 2008. A super fog is so dense that you would not be able to see your own hand in front of your face. This combination of smoke and water vapor is a dangerous one. The smoke provides particles for the water vapor to condense around. One of the most troubling kinds of fog is called “super fog.” Super fog forms when smoke from wildfires and water vapor come together to form an extremely dense fog. When it comes into contact with cold surfaces such as roads and sidewalks, it instantly forms a dangerous icy layer. In this case, water in the air becomes “supercooled.” This supercooled water is a liquid, but it is colder than the freezing point (32✯). Sometimes it is cold enough, but the air does not have any particles. ![]() Ice crystals form in the air when it’s cold enough and particles like dust or smoke in the air provide a “seed” for the ice crystal to form around. Ice fog is common in parts of Alaska and Canada.Īnother kind of fog is freezing fog. Ice fog forms only at extremely cold temperatures. Ice fog forms when the air near the ground is cold enough to turn the water in fog into ice crystals. There are many different types of fog, too. Open pilon fracture with extensive soft tissue injury and a severe crush component are graded as type 3. The differential diagnosis between shin splints also known as medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS) and a true stress fracture is often difficult. Type 2 open fractures have more extensive soft tissue injury with minimal to moderate crushing, typically with a laceration > 1 cm. If one is concerned about the ankle joint, the ankle series is more appropriate, if the knee is the point of focus, a knee series. Gustilo type 1 open fractures are generally clean with a < 1-cm skin laceration. Basically, if the report states “open fracture,” you’d code it as open fracture. This is really gross to think about but since we’re coders, we have to. ![]() Closed fracture means that there’s a broken bone but it is not coming out through the skin. If the report specifies ‘nondisplaced’ fracture, then code it as nondisplaced.Īll fractures default to a “closed” fracture if it’s not documented. (Displaced basically just means the bones are not lined up right). All fractures default to a displaced fracture if it is not documented as displaced or nondisplaced. These are all found in the ICD-10-CM Book in the guidelines about fracture coding. Just in general, here are some more facts about fracture coding. A radiologist will never say “patient is now in recovery/healing phase.” Keywords for healing is if the documentation mentions “callus formation.” Callus formation means the bones are healing. Sometimes keywords in the report help as well. Examples of the recovery phase: if the patient is having x-rays to determine how a fracture is healing= 7th character D. It just has to do with if the patient is in the healing/recovery phase or not. It says 7th character D is used for encounters after the patient has completed active treatment of the condition and is receiving routine care for the condition during the healing or recovery phase. Ok, just like I mentioned in the last blog post, the 7th character is not determined by provider or how many visits the patient has had, or anything like that. Please see the pic where I have the star. Ok, as a follow up to last weeks post about 7th character A, for this week I thought I’d talk about 7th character D and more just about fracture coding in general.
